The Story Behind This Painting:
This painting is first and foremost a fun idea that I really wanted to put out into the world. It evolved into a funny little homage to the unique relationship some fathers have with their kids. You see all kinds of paintings with mothers holding and nurturing children, but Dads often help us out of our comfort zone with their own parenting style. It made me think of the fun times I had with my Dad growing up where he startled me and my mom would get upset with him, and the way my husband plays a little more rough with our kids than I do.
The idea began like many of my paintings do - with a particular animal - I wanted to do a fun painting of a shark, but I didn't have any ideas that got me really excited until this popped into my head. I was working with my sketch book and had made a list of playful items, one of them being a jack in the box. Then the idea popped into my mind and it made me laugh out loud. Laughter is one of things the really inspires me.

This painting is one of five paintings included in the "Just For Fun" Show - A collection of paintings done in an imaginative realist style. It was my first virtual art show. The show includes a video that you can find on youtube. It was painted during the COVID 19 pandemic as part of a show that was supposed to held at a Gallery in Phoenix. When the show was canceled due to Covid, I decided to show the series on my own online.
